It is no secret that Ed Sheeran is having a great time of it of late, with his latest album, Divide, reaching the top of every music chart imaginable. With Shape of You pioneering such lists, the song has enjoyed millions of views on Facebook as well and record streaming success, leading the way when it comes to the crowded world of music downloads.
However, since its release back in January, many fans and critics have made comparison between the song and TLC’s Scrubs. Ingrained within pop culture, the classic is regarded as one of the super group’s most loved songs.
The team behind No Scrubs have been given writing credits on Ed Sheeran’s song, with Sheeran accepting that the song was inspired by the song.
Kandi Burruss, Tameka Cottle and producer Kevin Briggs now appear on American copyright website ASCAP’s listing of the song. Ed Sheeran and co-writers Steve Mac and Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid were originally the only name featured on the page, with this update causing many to pass comment.
Kandi Burruss wrote “thank you for allowing @majorgirl (Tameka Cottle) and I to share the success” on Instagram.
